TO DONATE
Dear Community Member;

It’s that time of year again!  Santa and the elves at the Winnsboro Volunteer Fire Department are getting ready to  provide food and gifts to those in need in Winnsboro again this year.  This long standing service project has been able to help hundreds of kids and families for many years.  This year, more than ever, we need help from the entire community.   It can only happen with help from wonderful people like you!

Our goal is to provide 3 to 4 toys/gifts, stocking candy and a warm blanket to every child who qualifies.  To qualify, a child must be between newborn and 18 year old student and live within the Winnsboro school district.  Each family also receives a gift card to Brookshires to purchase a Christmas dinner.  We also serve our elderly citizens in low income housing by providing a Brookshires gift card, blanket and a small gift.

If your business would like to participate in this program, we would be very grateful.  Set your imagination on fire for how to make that happen….. donation jar at the register, toy donation for a discount, challenge your competition, add WVFD round up tip line to food tickets, collect toys, etc.  We are accepting unwrapped toys or monetary donations this year.

Donations need to be received by December 10th so that the WVFD Christmas Elves can organize, shop, package, and prepare to hand out the gifts.  Our Elves would be more than happy to pick up your donations or meet at the fire station to take photos with your employees and a fire truck so that we can promote your business on our social media pages. New unwrapped toys can also be dropped off at Winnsboro City Hall lobby, Police Department lobby at 501 Main St. or Christus Trinity Mother Frances Hospital lobby at 719 W Coke Rd, Winnsboro.

Monetary donations can be made by mail to WVFD Christmas Fund, P.O. Box 595, Winnsboro, TX or dropped off at First National Bank on 315 N. Main Street or 210 S. Main St., Winnsboro, TX  75494 (both locations).  All donations will receive a letter for tax purposes.  Please note in memo of check this is for the Christmas fund.

Thank you so very much for your participation, help, and generosity. We serve a great community and it’s people like you who make it even better! \  Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns, 903-342--3655, or Winnsboro Volunteer Fire Department  Email <wvfdtexas@gmail.com>.

CITY COUNCIL MEETING, TUESDAY, APRIL 11, 2023

UPDATE POST MEETING

AGENDA OVERVIEW:  CLICK HERE

Source: https://winnsborotexas.civicweb.net/document/30886/

KEY TOPICS ON AGENDA

  • Sigma Litigation and update to council (city laws violated) related to pending legislation in Austin, TX:  The plant is granted a temporary operation period of 45 days by the court to ramp up and perform a stack testing of chemicals going in the stack and chemicals and odors that are emitted.

  • The start date was slated for April 5, however, both sides of the issue need to agree on an independent 3rd party qualified environmental expert as an observer for all of those 45 days.  Right now, the start date was around April 17 and subject to change based on court proceedings.

  • Any complaints of the following if ONLY going beyond or past the Sigma Plant property lines:  smoke, steam with particulate matter, odors or noise, should be reported to the city as it violates city ordinances (law):  903-342-3620 non emergency number at the Police Dept., Scotty Sewell, code enforcement, or email info@winnsborotexas.com or <mlyons@winnsborotexas.com>

  • These potential emissions may also violate their TCEQ permit; so reports can be made to TCEQ as well.  Go here online to report a concern;  https://www.tceq.texas.gov/compliance/complaints
  • NOTE:  Phone calls to TCEQ are not recorded or logged as concerns.

TRAVEL TOURISM NEWS

Wood County Recognized with Award as “Best Weekend Road Trip” in Texas
Wood County, Texas [9/12/2023] — The Wood County Economic Development Commission (WCEDC) announced today that Wood County has been recognized with a prestigious award as a premier tourist destination for other Texans.
Official Best of America recognized Wood County as the “Best Weekend Road Trip” for other Texans, and memorialized the honor with a video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCx3iOJdZeg&feature=youtu.be

"We are ecstatic to receive this award which is a reflection of all the hard work put forth by the people who live in Wood County,” said Christine Thomas, Executive Director of the WCEDC. “Everyone, residents, and businesses alike, has played a role, whether through their tax dollars or volunteerism at the many exciting events that we host throughout the year.
“It’s also important to recognize the businesses in Wood Country which have done a great job of welcoming visitors, in turn making Wood County a regular destination for people from Dallas and Houston and all points in between,” she added.
“These are exciting times. We look forward to building upon the recognition, doing everything we can to maintain our attraction to the tourist community.”
This is not the first time the county has been recognized. Last year, it was highlighted by CultureMap at https://sanantonio.culturemap.com/news/travel/07-19-22-travel-texas-wood-county/  [
